The chosen title suggests that we aim to be active in our meetings, as we engage with each other and the vast subject of mathematics and its pervasive applications in the past and present. We currently have 7 members and meet for 2 hours in some members homes on the 4th Thursday morning of the month.
Members have varied backgrounds including some who have just Olevel/GCSE from school days but a continuing, or sometimes a new, fascination with the subject. We use articles, interesting problems, radio/tv programmes as starting points as well as encounters with new mathematical topics and use technology. Members contribute with questions, talks, solutions to problems and their 'noticings' of maths cropping up in our society. Very different from working through a syllabus,as we did at school!
